Safety and Warnings
Whenever the robot moves, stands up, or performs actions, there is a risk of falling, collision, or injury. The points below are where accidents most commonly happen in real scenarios. Read through them before operating for the first time.
Read before operating
1. Always enter preparation mode and have the robot stand firmly on the ground before entering WALK mode.
2. Do not lift the robot while it is in motion.
3. During motion, make sure no people or obstacles are within the robot's range of movement to avoid injury and collisions.
4. During motion, do not touch any part of the robot other than the handle with your body.
Environment and Actions
Large movements such as full-body dances are recommended on hard surfaces like rubber, concrete, or tile. Carpet has high friction and increases the risk of falling. Keep people away from the robot throughout the entire action. For detailed site and environment requirements, see Overview.
During Upgrades
When installing a new software version, the robot's motion control program is shut down and the joints no longer exert force. Therefore, before upgrading, always give the robot solid support (for example, lay it flat on the ground) and switch to DAMP mode to prevent it from falling during the upgrade.
Additional Notes for Secondary Development
After entering custom mode (CUSTOM), all joints, including both legs, are controlled by your code, and the robot can easily lose balance and fall. We recommend protecting the robot with a transfer rig throughout, validating your algorithms in Webots / Isaac simulation before deploying to the real robot, and being especially careful with changes involving bipedal control. Custom mode can only be entered from PREP mode or DAMP mode, and can only return to these two modes. For a full description of the modes, see Modes.
